Connecting with Short Lines in Minneapolis

This April, we’re heading to Minneapolis for the ASLRRA Annual Conference and Exhibition. If you work in short line rail, you already know this is the event of the year; the place where the industry comes together to talk about the challenges and opportunities that shape short line operations. From April 12 through 14, the Minneapolis Convention Center will be full of railroaders, suppliers, and everyone in between who’s focused on keeping freight moving safely and efficiently.

For us, ASLRRA is a chance to do what we enjoy most: having real conversations with the people who maintain and operate short line railroads. We’ll be on the exhibit hall floor throughout the conference, including the opening reception on Sunday, the happy hour on Monday, and the exhibit hall breakfast on Tuesday. Short lines don’t operate like Class Is. You’re working with smaller teams, tighter budgets, and equipment that needs to stay in service. When something goes wrong, you don’t have layers of redundancy to fall back on. That’s why maintenance and reliability matter so much. It’s not just about avoiding breakdowns—it’s about keeping the railroad running so your customers stay confident in your service.

The ASLRRA conference is built around that reality. Between the general sessions and the education tracks, there’s a lot of talk about what’s working in short line operations right now. We’ll be there listening as much as we’re talking.
